Scholarship Programs

CSEA
CSEA awards twenty-four (24) $1000 scholarships under the Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship and Thomas H. McDonough programs Plus, Pearl Carroll & Associates LLC and Metlife each sponsor a one-time $2,500 award. Applications are available in mid-February from Local and Unit Presidents. Filing for a Flaumenbaum scholarship automatically puts an applicant in consideration for the Pearl Carroll & Associates LLC and MetLife scholarships. To download the Flaumenbaum application, log onto CSEA’s website at http://www.cseany.org. Mail application to: Scholarship Committee, CSEA, 143 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12210. Winners of the Irving Flaumenbaum Memorial Scholarship Award are eligible to apply for the Thomas H. McDonough programs scholarships; applications are automatically mailed to eligible students in late August. For more information call 1-800-342-4146 x1319.
CSEA offers a special scholarship program, the J.J. Kelly Memorial Scholarship Fund. For children in the course of performing their public service duties. To obtain an application write to CSEA Headquarters, Internal Operations, 143 Washington Ave., Albany, NY 12210 or call 1-800-342-4146 ext. 1319. The application deadline is October 1.

AFSCME Scholarships
AFSCME/UNCF/Harvard Union Scholars Program AFSCME has joined with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) to let eligible college students experience what its like to be a part of the labor movement.
AFSCME Family Scholarship $2,000 renewable scholarship awarded to 10 high school seniors each year.

AFSCME Scholarships for National Labor College Degree Programs
AFSCME members and staff enrolled in the National Labor College (NLC) Bachelor’s degree program may be eligible for a Nadra Floyd Memorial Scholarship worth up to $2,000 per year. Full-time AFSCME local, council or international staff and local union officers with substantial organizing responsibilities may qualify for a $10,000 Joey Parisi Memorial Scholarship. Jerry Clark Memorial Scholarship A collegiate scholarship for juniors and seniors with a major in a social science; it includes a summer internship in the AFSCME Political Action Department in Washington, D.C.
Jerry Wurf Memorial Fund Provides three scholarships for the six-week Harvard Trade Union Program for full-time AFSCME staff planning a career in the trade union movement or an AFSCME member holding an elected position who is willing to take leave.
Union Plus National Labor College Scholarship This scholarship is for dues-paying union members or staff employees of an AFL-CIO affiliated organization interested in enrolling in the National Labor College.
Union Plus Scholarship Program
Sponsored by the Union Plus Education Foundation, helps union members and their families defray the cost of higher education. Since 1992, the program has awarded over $3 million to deserving students.
